Camunda for Analysts

Overview

The "Camunda for Analysts" course combines theory with practice, offering participants workshops in individual environments under the guidance of a trainer. The program is designed for business analysts and individuals responsible for development, monitoring, and optimizing organizational operations. During the course, participants will delve into the intricacies of modeling using BPMN and DMN standards and learn effective process analysis methods within the Camunda environment.

During the training, participants will learn:

• BPMN and DMN notation and their application in process modeling
• How process engines work and for which problems BPMN is an effective tool
• Versioning of processes, change management, and switching between versions
• The lifecycle of a process in the Camunda engine and its verification methods
• Interpretation of BPMN and DMN notation by the Camunda engine and issues related to data schema and incidents
• Communication approaches of Camunda with external systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, external tasks)
• Methods for diagnosing process problems and optimization as well as anti-patterns

Introduction to Process Automation and the Camunda Ecosystem

• What kind of problems is BPM best suited to solve?
• The role of process engines and the benefits of their implementation.
• Camunda Landscape – discussing the differences between Community and Enterprise versions.
• Basic concepts and ideas in working with the Camunda engine.
• Process lifecycle – principles of starting up and methods for verifying its state.

BPMN and DMN Modeling in the Engine Practice

• Introduction to BPMN and DMN notation.
• BPMN and DMN under the microscope – how the Camunda engine interprets and executes individual elements of the notation.
• Versioning of processes and secure switching between versions.
• Incremental process development step by step.
• Common anti-patterns – mistakes to avoid during modeling and implementation.

Integration, Data Flow and Architecture

• Camunda database schema.
• Transactionality in processes.
• Camunda communication with external systems – discussing best approaches (e.g., External Tasks, message queues such as RabbitMQ).
• Calling external APIs and feeding processes with variables.
